Where it came from
Released in November 2015, this self-titled collaborative album marked the first full-length studio project between French singer-songwriters Alain Souchon and Laurent Voulzy. The two artists have shared a decades-long creative partnership, having written numerous hits for each other throughout their careers, but this project was their first attempt at co-writing and recording an entire album together. Produced under Warner Music France, the record reflects their signature acoustic-pop style, blending Souchon's observational and melancholic lyrics with Voulzy's melodic sensibilities.
The album was released to significant commercial success in France, quickly achieving triple platinum status shortly after its debut. Critically, it was received as a nostalgic and sophisticated showcase of the chemistry that defined their long-standing friendship. The design and production aimed to strip back the artifice of modern pop, focusing on intimate arrangements that emphasize their vocal harmonies, a direction that resonated deeply with their established fan base who had followed their individual paths for over forty years.
