Alan Freed's Moon Dog Show (The Testament Of Rock 'N' Roll Vol. 1)

This compilation, released by Famous Groove in 1997, serves as an archival tribute to the legendary disc jockey Alan Freed. Known as the man who popularized the term rock and roll, Freed hosted his influential 'Moondog House' radio show in Cleveland and later New York throughout the 1950s. The release aims to capture the high-energy, eclectic soundscape of mid-century rhythm and blues and early rock music that defined his broadcasts.

The album functions as a historical document, gathering tracks that were staples of Freed’s groundbreaking radio programming. The design and track selection reflect the mid-century spirit of the 'Moondog' persona, seeking to preserve the raw, foundational energy of the era. It was received by music historians and collectors as a curated window into the radio culture that helped bridge the gap between segregated musical styles in post-war America.
