An Evening With Tony Carey And Martin Hämmerle

Released in 2011 on the starfish truck'n roll label, An Evening With Tony Carey And Martin Hämmerle captures a stripped-back, intimate performance by American musician Tony Carey alongside percussionist Martin Hämmerle. The album reflects a departure from Carey’s more expansive rock and pop arrangements, leaning into a singer-songwriter aesthetic that focuses on the raw interplay between vocals, keyboards, and percussion. This release belongs to a period where Carey, known for his work with Rainbow and a successful solo career, favored smaller, direct audience connections.

The album serves as a document of a live collaboration, emphasizing the improvisational spirit of the two performers. As an independent release under Carey’s own label imprint, it targets a niche audience of long-term fans and collectors interested in his folk and acoustic-leaning repertoire. The design is utilitarian and understated, prioritizing the auditory experience of the performance over commercial artifice, which aligns with the independent spirit of the recording process during that stage of Carey’s career.
