Angel Devil Priest: Violin Concertos

Released in 2015 on the Deutsche Harmonia Mundi label, this album features violinist Chouchane Siranossian performing high-virtuosity violin concertos by Jean-Marie Leclair, Pietro Antonio Locatelli, and Antonio Vivaldi. The recording was conceived to showcase the technical demands and expressive range of the 18th-century virtuoso repertoire, framed by the thematic contrast between the divine and the demonic in Baroque music. Siranossian collaborated with the Neue Hofkapelle München and conductor Rüdiger Lotter to achieve an historically informed performance that emphasizes period-appropriate phrasing and ornamentation.

The album is noted for its exploration of the 'Devil's Trill' aesthetic and the intense, athletic writing favored by composers like Locatelli and Leclair. Critical reception focused on Siranossian's precise technical execution and her ability to navigate the complex, often aggressive passages of the late Baroque era. The project stands as a significant entry in Siranossian's discography, highlighting her commitment to period-instrument performance and the revival of challenging, lesser-played concertos from the mid-1700s.
