Brandenburgische Konzerte 1 - 6

Released in 2013 on the Deutsche Harmonia Mundi label, this recording of Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concertos features the Neue Hofkapelle München under the leadership of violinist Rüdiger Lotter. The project was conceived as an exploration of period-informed performance, emphasizing the transparency and rhythmic vitality inherent in Baroque instrumentation. The ensemble sought to move away from the heavier, romanticized interpretations of the mid-20th century, opting instead for a leaner, more agile sound that highlights the unique textural contrasts between the solo instruments and the ripieno group.

The production garnered positive attention from classical music critics for its technical precision and the ensemble's sense of spontaneity. By utilizing historical tuning and gut strings, the Neue Hofkapelle München aimed to capture the dance-like character of the concertos. This recording has been recognized for its balanced acoustic quality and its adherence to the stylistic rigor typical of the Deutsche Harmonia Mundi catalogue, serving as a reliable entry for listeners seeking a historically grounded perspective on these canonical works.
