Carmen Maki Blues Creation

The 1971 collaboration between Japanese rock icon Carmen Maki and the heavy blues-rock band Blues Creation represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of Japanese psychedelic and hard rock. Recorded in the wake of Maki’s transition from folk-pop to a grittier, blues-influenced sound, the album features raw, improvisational arrangements that were intended to showcase the band's burgeoning prowess in the blues-rock genre. It arrived during a period of significant cultural experimentation in Tokyo's underground scene, capturing a unique blend of Western-influenced heavy blues and localized, avant-garde sensibilities.

This 2012 release by Phoenix Records serves as a digital-era reissue aimed at preserving the legacy of the original LP. The design and presentation maintain the minimalist, stark aesthetic associated with the album's initial release, ensuring the focus remains on the intensity of the performances. Reissues of this caliber are generally intended for audiophiles and collectors of the Japanese psych-rock movement, and the album has been critically reassessed over the decades as a landmark fusion of East-meets-West heavy rock, frequently cited by music historians for its uncompromising instrumental depth.
