Where it came from
The Chants Grégoriens collection featuring the Chœur des Moines de l'Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes represents a modern distribution of a sacred musical tradition that dates back centuries. The Abbey of Solesmes has long been the primary center for the restoration and scholarly preservation of Gregorian chant, with Dom Joseph Gajard serving as the influential choirmaster who defined the monastery's rhythmic and melodic interpretation throughout the mid-20th century.
This specific 2011 release under the PromoSound label serves as a retrospective compilation, designed to make these historically significant recordings accessible to a contemporary audience. The recordings themselves are prized for their authentic acoustic quality and the meditative precision of the monks' performance, a style that established the benchmark for liturgical music performance and influenced both religious practice and the development of early music study worldwide.
