Chant Grégorien: Repons Et Monodies Gallicanes

This recording was produced by harmonia mundi, a label renowned for its commitment to early music and historical performance practice. The Deller Consort, originally founded by the legendary countertenor Alfred Deller, continues its long-standing tradition of exploring medieval and Renaissance vocal repertoires with this collection of Gregorian chant and Gallican monodies, emphasizing clarity of line and liturgical authenticity.

The album serves as a scholarly yet accessible entry into the chant traditions that preceded the standardization of the Roman rite. By focusing on Gallican liturgical music, the ensemble highlights the regional musical nuances that existed in Europe before the ninth century. The release was well-received by early music critics for its atmospheric restraint and the technical precision of the vocalists, reflecting the label's dedication to high-fidelity documentation of pre-classical choral traditions.
