Provenance

Where it came from

Originally released in 1976 and 1977 respectively, Christmas Jollies and Christmas Jollies II captured the peak of the disco era’s orchestral exuberance. Produced by the legendary Vincent Montana Jr., these albums were crafted to bring a high-energy, dancefloor-ready aesthetic to traditional holiday classics, defining the Salsoul Orchestra’s signature fusion of Philadelphia soul, funk, and elaborate string arrangements. The project was designed as a festive extension of the label's mainstream disco success, aiming to offer listeners a sophisticated and rhythmic alternative to standard seasonal music.

The 2023 Extra Jolly Edition, released by SoulMusic Records, functions as a comprehensive archival package that brings these two seminal albums together in a remastered format. The design intent for this release was to preserve the vibrant, kinetic spirit of the original studio sessions while utilizing modern sonic restoration to improve clarity. This edition has been well-received by disco enthusiasts and archivists, who value it as a definitive document of 1970s studio production techniques and the cultural crossover of disco into the holiday music canon.
