D-Stringz

D-Stringz was recorded in 2012 and released in 2015 by the historic Impulse! label in France, bringing together three virtuosos of the jazz and fusion world: bassist Stanley Clarke, guitarist Biréli Lagrène, and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. The project originated from a series of live performances at the Jazz in Marciac festival, where the trio sought to explore a dynamic, acoustic-oriented interplay that bridged their respective backgrounds in jazz fusion, classical, and Gypsy jazz traditions.

The album reflects a spontaneous, improvisational chemistry, capturing the trio's ability to navigate complex arrangements without a percussion section. By stripping away the electronic production characteristic of their past solo work, the musicians focused on the raw dexterity of their string instruments. Critics noted the project as a refined showcase of technical proficiency and mature dialogue, emphasizing a sophisticated sonic landscape that remained accessible while highlighting the diverse stylistic lineage of each performer.
