Dornröschen

Dornröschen, the German title for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's celebrated ballet The Sleeping Beauty, represents one of the most significant works of late 19th-century romantic composition. Composed between 1888 and 1889, the score was commissioned by the director of the Imperial Theatres in Moscow. Tchaikovsky drew upon his deep understanding of symphonic structure to elevate the ballet score from mere background music to a sophisticated, cohesive narrative work, characterized by its recurring leitmotifs and rich, varied orchestration.

This 2018 release on the Amor label serves as a modern iteration of the classic recording canon, catering to audiences who seek digital reproductions of standard classical repertoire. The choice to release the work under this label reflects the ongoing efforts by various independent or smaller-distribution labels to keep the core classical canon accessible to contemporary listeners. Its reception in the digital age relies on the enduring global recognition of Tchaikovsky’s melodic brilliance and the consistent technical demand for high-fidelity recordings of his three great ballets.
