Dornröschen

This release of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty, titled Dornröschen, was issued in 2015 as part of a prestigious classical music series curated by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. The project was designed to make essential works of the orchestral repertoire accessible to a wider audience, bundling high-quality recordings with informative, well-researched booklets that explored the historical significance of the compositions.

The recording itself reflects the enduring legacy of Tchaikovsky’s 1889 ballet score, a cornerstone of Romantic orchestral literature. By presenting this work under the banner of a major national publication, the production sought to marry rigorous musical performance with the intellectual context of the newspaper’s cultural journalism. It remains a notable example of the trend in the mid-2010s where print media houses expanded their educational reach through curated, comprehensive classical music collections.
