Dornröschen (Deutscher Original Film-Soundtrack)

The 2006 release of the Dornröschen soundtrack marks the German-language presentation of the music from Walt Disney’s 1959 animated classic, Sleeping Beauty. This CD was produced as part of a broader initiative by Walt Disney Records to restore and reissue definitive versions of their heritage film scores for new generations of European audiences. By this time, the studio had shifted focus toward high-fidelity digital transfers, ensuring that the orchestral arrangements by George Bruns and the adapted songs could be enjoyed with modern acoustic clarity while preserving the charm of the original German dubbing.

The design of this release draws heavily from the iconic production art of the film, which was famously influenced by medieval tapestry and the distinctive, angular style of artist Eyvind Earle. Earle’s work on Sleeping Beauty was a departure from the softer aesthetics of earlier Disney films, aiming for a sophisticated, painterly appearance that mirrored European gothic art. The 2006 soundtrack packaging reflects this legacy, utilizing the film's signature visual motifs to ground the listening experience in the specific mid-century modernist aesthetic that continues to define the legacy of the Sleeping Beauty production.
