Where it came from
Released in 2020 by the Polish label Acte Préalable, this recording represents a dedicated effort to document the chamber music of Edward Swan Hennessy, an Irish-American composer who spent much of his life in France. The album features violist Marcin Murawski and pianist Anna Starzec-Makandasis, who collaborated to bring these works to light as part of the label's commitment to exploring lesser-known repertoire from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The compositions presented here reflect Hennessy's unique stylistic blend, characterized by his experiences within the Parisian musical circles of his time. Marcin Murawski’s interpretation focuses on highlighting the nuances of Hennessy’s technical writing for the viola, providing an important resource for listeners and scholars interested in the transition between Romanticism and modernism in early 20th-century chamber music.
