Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2019, Einmal Gamer Immer Gamer serves as a cornerstone of Jan Hegenberg’s career, a musician who established himself as the voice of the German gaming community in the early 2000s. The album reflects Hegenberg’s long-standing dedication to writing anthems specifically for the digital culture, blending German-language rock and electronic elements with lyrical themes centered on gaming tropes, community, and the evolution of the industry. This specific collection represents his independent evolution, maintaining his DIY ethos by self-releasing the work directly to his dedicated fan base.

The album’s design and conceptual framework lean into the nostalgia and continuity inherent in Hegenberg’s discography. By focusing on themes of loyalty and lifelong engagement with gaming, the record acts as a reflective piece for those who grew up alongside the rise of home consoles and PC gaming. It was received primarily within the German gaming subculture, where Hegenberg’s music is often associated with early internet culture and community gatherings, cementing his status as a niche but significant cultural figure for a generation of European gamers.
