Where it came from
Released in 2016 by Varèse Sarabande, this edition serves as a remastered reissue of Eric Carmen’s self-titled 1975 solo debut album. Following his departure from the power-pop group the Raspberries, Carmen sought to establish himself as a solo artist, blending his signature melodic sensibility with lush, piano-driven arrangements and orchestral pop production that drew heavy influence from his admiration for Sergei Rachmaninoff and The Beatles.
The album is historically significant for producing the hit 'All by Myself,' which became one of the most recognizable songs of the decade. The design and presentation for this archival release aimed to preserve the original aesthetic of the 1975 Arista debut while utilizing modern mastering techniques to enhance the fidelity of Carmen's intricate layering. It was received as a definitive entry for fans of 1970s soft rock, highlighting a pivotal transition in Carmen’s career as he moved from garage-rock roots toward a more sophisticated, radio-friendly sound.
