Where it came from
Released in 2021 on the Fresh Sound New Talent label, this album captures the creative synergy of the Frederic Borey Butterflies Trio. Borey, a prominent French saxophonist and composer, formed this ensemble to explore sophisticated harmonic landscapes and intricate rhythmic dialogues. The record was produced within the context of the European modern jazz scene, reflecting a contemporary approach to the classic saxophone trio format.
The album reflects Borey's interest in structured improvisation and melodic development, themes he has cultivated throughout his career as a leader and sideman. The design of the release adheres to the minimalist, artist-focused aesthetic favored by Fresh Sound Records, a label widely respected for documenting the work of emerging and established improvisers. Upon its release, the project was noted for its nuanced interplay and the technical proficiency of the trio members, serving as a significant entry in Borey's discography.
