Where it came from
Released in 2016, I Wonder as I Wander serves as a collaborative holiday project between the multi-instrumentalist Fats Kaplin and vocalist Kristi Rose. The album was born out of the duo’s long-standing partnership in the Americana and roots music scene, aiming to strip away the commercial sheen often associated with traditional Christmas carols in favor of a more intimate, atmospheric, and folk-oriented soundscape.
The record features a curated selection of winter-themed tracks that highlight Kaplin’s virtuosic command of instruments like the fiddle, accordion, and banjo alongside Rose’s expressive, theatrical vocal delivery. By focusing on stark arrangements and emotive storytelling, the duo sought to evoke a sense of quiet reflection, positioning the collection as a seasonal alternative for listeners who appreciate the nuances of acoustic Americana music.
