Jackson Trip

Jackson Trip was released in 2017 by the German jazz trumpeter and composer Rüdiger Baldauf under the Mons Records label. The album serves as a sophisticated tribute to the music of Michael Jackson, reimagined through the lens of a contemporary big band and jazz ensemble. Baldauf, a highly regarded figure in the German music scene and a long-time member of the TV Total Heavytones, sought to explore the harmonic complexity and rhythmic versatility inherent in Jackson's pop catalog by applying sophisticated jazz arrangements.

The design and production of the record focus on the seamless integration of brass-heavy arrangements with familiar pop melodies, a hallmark of Baldauf’s career as a multi-instrumentalist and arranger. Upon its release, the album was received as a respectful and technically proficient homage, highlighting Baldauf’s ability to bridge the gap between popular music and jazz instrumentation. The project showcases his interest in elevating pop standards through intricate, live-recorded performances that prioritize musical texture and improvisation.
