Where it came from
Released under the Brilliant Classics label, this collection of Italian flute concertos represents a comprehensive effort to document the development of the flute repertoire during the 18th century. The compilation features the period-instrument ensemble Musica Ad Rhenum, led by flautist Jed Wentz, who sought to capture the stylistic nuance and ornamental flourishes characteristic of the Italian Baroque and early Classical periods.
The recording serves as a scholarly exploration of the flute's expressive versatility, bridging the transition from the concertos of Vivaldi and Albinoni to the more galant works of composers like Galuppi and Giordani. The ensemble's approach was informed by historical performance practices, aiming to provide a grounded, technically precise interpretation that honors the virtuosic demands placed on the soloist throughout the eighteenth-century European musical landscape.
