John Jenkins With Kenny Burrell

John Jenkins with Kenny Burrell was originally recorded in 1957 for Blue Note Records, capturing a pivotal moment in the hard bop era. The session featured alto saxophonist John Jenkins, a promising talent of the period, alongside guitarist Kenny Burrell, bassist Sonny Clark, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Dannie Richmond. It represents the quintessential Blue Note sound, characterized by Rudy Van Gelder’s crisp engineering and the label's dedication to documenting the evolving language of jazz improvisation.

The 2005 release functions as a remastered reissue of this historic session, preserving the tight, melodic interplay that defines the original recording. While Jenkins remained a relatively niche figure in the jazz canon compared to his contemporaries, this album is frequently cited by collectors for its understated elegance and the distinct, cool-toned guitar work of Kenny Burrell. The design mirrors the aesthetic traditions of the Blue Note catalog, leaning into the minimalist, typographically bold style established by Reid Miles that has become synonymous with the label's identity.
