Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2006 by the Herald label, this recording serves as a definitive musical portrait of Eton College, capturing the long-standing choral and instrumental traditions of one of the world's most prestigious independent schools. The album draws its title from the famous line in the 'Eton Boating Song,' an enduring emblem of the institution's cultural identity that reflects the specific atmosphere of rowing culture and collegiate life along the banks of the Thames.

The compilation features performances by a range of the school's internal musical bodies, including the Chapel Choir, the Chamber Orchestra, and various brass ensembles. The repertoire was curated to showcase the high standard of liturgical and secular music-making fostered within the college walls. Critics and alumni have generally viewed the collection as a nostalgic, carefully produced archive of the acoustic environment unique to the Eton Chapel, highlighting the pedagogical commitment to traditional choral excellence.
