Provenance

Where it came from

Originally released in 1988, Kaigara-Terrace represents the quintessential late-eighties city pop and idol aesthetic championed by Yoko Oginome during the height of her career. The album was produced as part of the prolific Victor label output, capturing the glossy, synth-heavy arrangements that defined the Japanese pop music scene before the transition into the nineties. It serves as a stylistic bridge between the upbeat dance-pop tracks that propelled Oginome to stardom and the more mature, atmospheric songwriting she began to explore during this period.

The 2010 edition serves as a remastered reissue, bringing the original tracklist to digital clarity with the addition of bonus tracks, as indicated by the +4 designation. This release is part of a broader archival initiative to preserve the legacy of eighties idol pop for a modern audience. The design and remastering choices remain faithful to the original art direction, which utilized airy, evocative coastal imagery to match the title and the breezy, optimistic tone of the music.
