Klaus Der Geiger

Klaus der Geiger, born Klaus von Wrochem, is a quintessential figure of the German counterculture and street performance scene, famously known for his violin performances in the streets of Cologne since the late 1960s. This 1998 self-released recording captures his distinct blend of political activism, folk tradition, and improvisational street art, which served as a musical extension of his decades-long presence as a public advocate for social justice and anti-establishment causes.

The album reflects his DIY ethos, as it was produced independently to preserve the raw, unadorned spontaneity of his live performances. The design and presentation prioritize authenticity over commercial gloss, mirroring his career-long commitment to bringing music directly to the public without the mediation of major record labels. Within the context of his broader body of work, this recording serves as a historical document of his enduring role as a musician who views the public square as both a performance venue and a space for democratic expression.
