Where it came from
Klaus der Geiger, born Klaus von Wrochem, is a legendary figure in the German street music scene, having performed his political and improvisational violin music in Cologne for over four decades. The 2023 release 'Klaus Der Geiger Rockt!' represents a spirited evolution of his long-standing artistic mission, bringing his signature blend of socio-political commentary and virtuosic violin playing into a more modern, rock-inflected studio production.
The album was released on the independent label Schallinsland to capture the enduring energy of an artist who remains a cultural institution in his home city. The design of the release reflects his grounded, grassroots aesthetic, focusing on his identity as a musician who transitioned from classical training to a lifelong commitment to street performance and activist-minded composition. It serves as both a retrospective of his vibrant spirit and a testament to his continued relevance in the contemporary independent music landscape.
