Released in 2005 on the Classico label, Klassisk Improvisationsmusik serves as a unique auditory exploration of Hans Christian Andersen’s collection of short stories, Billedbog uden Billeder, or A Picture Book Without Pictures. The project was conceived by violinist Karen Humle and pianist Jette Mogensen, who sought to bridge the gap between Andersen's whimsical, melancholic literary tradition and the fluid spontaneity of classical improvisation. By interpreting the narrative essence of these stories through music rather than literal translation, the duo aimed to capture the ethereal quality of the source material.

The album reflects a specific Danish aesthetic that values the integration of storytelling and classical instrumentation, a hallmark of the collaborative cultural landscape from which it emerged.
