Le Voyage En Ballon (Bande Originale Du Film D'Albert Lamorisse)

Le Voyage en Ballon, a 1960 adventure film directed by Albert Lamorisse, follows the whimsical journey of a grandfather and his grandson as they traverse France in a hot air balloon. The score was composed by Jean Prodromidès, a frequent collaborator of Lamorisse, who sought to capture the ethereal, sweeping nature of aerial cinematography. His composition blends traditional orchestral arrangements with a sense of wonder, reflecting the film's status as a visual poem rather than a conventional narrative drama.

This 2007 compact disc release from Philips serves as a archival reissue of the original film soundtrack. By the time of this reissue, the film had gained a cult status among cinephiles for its pioneering use of the Helivision camera system, which allowed for stable, breathtaking panoramic shots. The release of this soundtrack on CD provided a formal preservation of Prodromidès's work, which is often studied for its ability to underscore the vast, open landscapes characteristic of Lamorisse's cinematic style.
