Le Voyage En Ballon (Bande Originale Du Film D'Albert Lamorisse)

The 1997 CD release of the soundtrack to Le Voyage en Ballon serves as a reissue of Jean Prodromidès’ original score for the 1960 French adventure film directed by Albert Lamorisse. The film, known in English as Stowaway in the Sky, is a follow-up to Lamorisse’s celebrated The Red Balloon and utilizes the same lyrical, observational aesthetic that defined the director's work. The soundtrack was composed to complement the film's stunning aerial cinematography, which captured vast landscapes across France from the vantage point of a hot air balloon.

Jean Prodromidès was chosen to score the film, crafting a whimsical and atmospheric orchestral composition that mirrors the film's sense of wonder and gentle tension. This particular edition was part of a broader push by Philips to archive and preserve significant French cinema scores from the mid-20th century. While the film itself remains a classic of international children's and family cinema, the soundtrack stands as a distinct example of French film scoring from the era, valued by collectors for its ability to evoke the film's serene, floating narrative through delicate instrumentation.
