Méditations / Maya (avec Marc Soustrot et Pierre-Yves Artaud)

Released in 1994 on the French label Stil, Méditations / Maya represents a significant entry in the recorded works of Japanese composer Yoshihisa Taïra. Taïra, who spent much of his career in France, was known for synthesizing Western avant-garde techniques with Japanese aesthetic sensibilities. These works exemplify his focus on textural density and the exploration of silence, reflecting his broader efforts to create a bridge between distinct musical traditions through complex, chamber-oriented compositions.

The album features performances by conductor Marc Soustrot and flautist Pierre-Yves Artaud, both of whom were instrumental in interpreting the contemporary French repertoire of the era. The production serves as a testament to the influence Taïra held within the Parisian contemporary music scene, where he was respected for his rigorous formal discipline. The release was received as an essential document for listeners interested in the intersection of spectralism and East Asian structural concepts in late 20th-century classical music.
