Where it came from
Released in 2017 by the independent label Artalinna, this recording represents the second installment of the Meeting Ginastera project. The series was conceptualized to explore the musical lineage and stylistic dialogues between Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera and his influences and contemporaries, most notably the Catalan composer Frederic Mompou. The project seeks to highlight the rhythmic vitality and modernistic textures of mid-20th-century piano literature.
The album features pianist Gabriel Urgell Reyes, whose interpretation was intended to bridge the gap between Ginastera's percussive, nationalist sensibilities and the introspective, impressionistic qualities of Mompou. The recording was received by critics as a thoughtful addition to the contemporary piano repertoire, noted particularly for the clarity of its production and the unconventional thematic pairing of these two composers.
