Music For Violin And Piano

Released in 2016 by Toccata Classics, this recording serves as a significant scholarly effort to revive the works of the Ukrainian-born composer Théodore Akimenko. Akimenko, a student of Rimsky-Korsakov and a contemporary of Stravinsky, lived a nomadic life across Europe, leading to his music being largely neglected following his death. The label initiated this project as part of their broader mission to record music by composers whose legacies were obscured by the political and cultural shifts of the 20th century.

The album features performances by violinist Tatiana Chulochnikova and pianist Anastasia Dedik, who were chosen for their technical precision and dedication to the late-Romantic Russian repertoire. The production aims to provide an authoritative interpretation of Akimenko’s lyrical, introspective violin sonatas and miniatures, capturing the delicate atmospheric qualities that characterize his unique stylistic synthesis. Critics have generally received the release as an essential contribution to the discography of overlooked early 20th-century chamber music.
