Orgelwerke (Jean Ferrard An Der Thomas-Orgel Der Kirche St-Remacle In Spa)

Released in 1994 by the German label Motette Ursina, this recording features organist Jean Ferrard performing works by Johann Sebastian Bach. The album was recorded on the Thomas organ located in the Church of Saint-Remacle in Spa, Belgium. Motette, founded in the 1970s, established a reputation for documenting the sounds of historically significant European pipe organs, and this production sought to capture the specific tonal palette of the Spa instrument within the context of the Baroque repertoire.

The recording highlights the meticulous craftsmanship of the Thomas organ, an instrument known for its ability to navigate the complex polyphony characteristic of Bach's compositions. Jean Ferrard, a respected figure in the Belgian organ scene, approached the performance with a focus on classical interpretation and technical precision. The release was aimed at classical music enthusiasts and organ aficionados, receiving modest recognition as a focused contribution to the extensive catalog of Bach organ recordings produced in the late twentieth century.
