Orgel & Panfluit (Vanuit De Martinikerk Bolsward)

Released in 1992 by the Dutch label De Bazuin, this recording captures a unique collaborative recital between organist Sander van Marion and pan flute virtuoso Matthijs Koene. The performance was recorded on-site at the Martinikerk in Bolsward, a historic church in the Friesland province of the Netherlands known for its distinct acoustics and its heritage organ, which serves as the centerpiece of the album's soundscape.

The album reflects the tradition of Dutch classical and liturgical music crossover projects, where soloists explore the textural contrast between the complex mechanical resonance of the pipe organ and the ethereal, breath-driven quality of the pan flute. Matthijs Koene, widely regarded as a leading proponent of the instrument in contemporary classical music, worked with van Marion to curate a program that highlighted the church's architectural environment, a practice common in European organ recordings of the era intended to capture the authentic spatial experience of the instrument.
