Peter-Lukas Graf Spielt Flötenkonzerte

Released in 1988 by the Swiss label Claves, this recording showcases the virtuosic flute performances of Peter-Lukas Graf, a central figure in 20th-century flute pedagogy and performance. The album brings together concertos by Quantz, Stamitz, and Stalder, reflecting the label's commitment to high-fidelity documentation of the classical repertoire. By pairing Graf with the Zürcher Kammerorchester under Edmond de Stoutz and the Württembergisches Kammerorchester under Jörg Faerber, the production highlights the stylistic nuance required for mid-to-late 18th-century flute literature.

Peter-Lukas Graf, a student of Marcel Moyse, was instrumental in championing the technical and lyrical capabilities of the flute throughout his career. His interpretation of these concertos is characterized by a precise, clean articulation that eschews excessive ornamentation in favor of clarity and balance. Claves, founded in 1968, was highly regarded by audiophiles during this period for its pristine recording techniques, which were specifically intended to capture the natural acoustics of chamber ensembles without the over-processing common in larger commercial studio releases.
