Reminiscence

Released in 2018 on the C.A.M. Jazz label, Reminiscence represents a collaborative exploration between violinist Régis Huby, bassist Bruno Chevillon, and percussionist Michele Rabbia. The project emerged from the European contemporary jazz scene, focusing on a minimalist and atmospheric aesthetic that highlights the trio's capacity for intricate, non-linear improvisation. By blending electronic textures with acoustic instrumentation, the ensemble sought to create a sonic space that feels both intimate and expansive, prioritizing subtle interplay over traditional melodic structures.

The album reflects a trend in late-2010s avant-garde jazz, where the lines between composition and spontaneous improvisation are intentionally blurred. The design and production reflect the label's commitment to high-fidelity soundscapes that complement the meditative quality of the music. Critical reception emphasized the technical precision of the trio, noting how the recording captures the nuanced, often delicate interactions between Huby’s violin, Chevillon’s double bass, and Rabbia’s array of percussion and electronics, establishing it as a notable entry in the trio's respective discographies.
