Where it came from
Released in 2008 by Spectra Musique, this album represents a significant milestone in Michel Rivard's long-standing career in Quebecois music. The project was conceived as a grand retrospective, reimagining a selection of his most beloved songs through the lens of sophisticated orchestral arrangements. By collaborating with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Rivard aimed to elevate his folk-rock catalog into a symphonic context, bridging the gap between popular songwriting and classical instrumentation.
The album was produced to capture the scale and texture of these live symphonic performances, reflecting a trend among established Quebec artists to revisit their repertoire with large-scale ensembles. The arrangements were meticulously crafted to preserve the intimacy of Rivard's original lyrics while providing a lush, expansive backdrop. Upon its release, the record was received as a celebratory document of Rivard’s impact on the provincial cultural landscape, solidifying his status as a pillar of contemporary chanson.
