Where it came from
This compact disc was released in 1990 by the German budget label Pilz as part of their 'Classic Digital' series. The collection was designed to provide affordable, accessible recordings of essential Romantic-era orchestral works for a mass-market audience, capitalizing on the rapid commercial transition from vinyl to the high-fidelity digital format during the early 1990s.
The selection features Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s tone poems 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'The Sleeping Beauty,' paired with Mikhail Glinka’s 'Ruslan and Ludmilla' overture. While the specific conductors and orchestras on these budget Pilz releases were often licensed from various Eastern European radio and state ensembles, the series focused on standard interpretations that prioritized clear, digital sound quality over the prestige associated with major international labels of the era.
