Symphony X

Released in 2016 by the label Wergo, this recording of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 10 features the International Mahler Orchestra under the baton of conductor Yoel Gamzou. The album represents a significant contribution to the performance history of Mahler’s unfinished final symphony, which remains one of the most debated and interpreted works in the late Romantic repertoire. Gamzou, who founded the orchestra as a platform for young musicians, spent years meticulously researching the various performing versions of the sketches Mahler left behind, aiming for a synthesis that honors the composer's intentions while acknowledging the inherently fragmented nature of the manuscript.

The production process for this recording was characterized by an attempt to capture the raw, transitional energy of the work rather than presenting a polished, definitive museum piece. Critics and scholars often note that Gamzou’s approach moves away from the heavy, revisionist orchestrations of the past, instead focusing on the transparency and chamber-like intimacy of the orchestral textures. By releasing this through Wergo, a label known for its dedication to contemporary and avant-garde music, the project was positioned as an intellectual exploration of musical reconstruction, earning recognition for its technical rigor and the ensemble's committed, precise delivery.
