Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2021 by Curb Records, this anthology serves as a comprehensive preservation of Carl Perkins' foundational tenure at Sun Records. It gathers the recordings made in Memphis during the mid-1950s, a pivotal era that defined the rockabilly genre and solidified Perkins' status as a primary architect of rock and roll. The collection was curated to provide a definitive resource for listeners to experience the raw, authentic sound that emanated from Sam Phillips' legendary studio.

The design of this collection centers on historical reverence, prioritizing the sonic restoration of the original master tapes over decorative packaging. It reflects the industry’s ongoing efforts to catalog the Sun Records legacy, placing Perkins’ work within the context of the cultural explosion that occurred when blues, country, and rhythm and blues converged in Tennessee. It is regarded by music historians as a vital archival document that highlights his instrumental skill and songwriting contribution to the American songbook.
