The Collection

The Collection was released in 2007 as a comprehensive retrospective of Alanis Morissette’s career during her tenure at Maverick Records. It served as a follow-up to her massive international success in the 1990s and early 2000s, compiling her most significant radio hits alongside select tracks from her studio albums. The compilation was intended to provide a concise overview for casual listeners, capturing the transition from the angst-driven alternative rock of Jagged Little Pill to the more introspective, melodic songwriting of her later projects.

The artwork and design reflect the understated aesthetic common to mid-2000s greatest hits packages, favoring a clean, professional layout that emphasizes the longevity of the artist's discography. While this specific iteration carries the Moon Records imprint—reflecting regional licensing agreements common for international distributions—the tracklist remains consistent with global releases. Critics generally viewed the compilation as a functional entry point for the artist's catalog, acknowledging its role in consolidating a decade of chart-topping influence into a single, cohesive narrative.
