Velazquez's Little Museum / Le Petit Musée de Velasquez

Released in 1994, Velazquez's Little Museum (Le Petit Musée de Velasquez) is a multimedia educational CD-ROM created by Gaëtan Gravel and Serge Laforest. Produced during the early surge of interactive art history software, the project aimed to provide an immersive digital experience of the works of Diego Velázquez. By combining visual galleries with textual commentary, the developers sought to replicate the experience of an intimate museum visit, leveraging the then-emerging capabilities of personal computing to bring classical Spanish painting to a broader audience.

The disc remains a niche artifact of the Canadian independent software scene of the mid-1990s. Gravel and Laforest designed the interface to focus on high-fidelity visual exploration, prioritizing the accessibility of the artist's canon over complex interactive gaming elements. While it did not reach the commercial ubiquity of major publishing-house educational suites, it is noted by collectors as a distinct, self-published attempt to bridge the gap between burgeoning digital technology and traditional art historiography.
