Where it came from
Released in 2007 by the German label Raumklang, Vita S. Elisabethae serves as a musical hagiography dedicated to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. The recording emerged during a period of renewed academic and artistic interest in the life of the 13th-century saint, coinciding with the 800th anniversary of her birth. The project was conceived as a collaborative effort to synthesize medieval liturgical traditions with high-fidelity sound, reflecting the cultural heritage of the regions where Elizabeth lived and served.
The album features performances by the vocal ensembles Ioculatores, Ars Choralis Coeln, and Amarcord, who were selected for their expertise in early music and historically informed performance practices. The arrangement was designed to create an immersive narrative arc, blending plainchant, sequences, and monophonic compositions that evoke the devotional atmosphere of the medieval period. Upon its release, the recording was well received within the early music community for its scholarly rigor and the vocal precision of the contributing ensembles.
