1 Dollar - Elizabeth II (4th Portrait - Australian Olympic Team - Silver Proof)

The 2008 Australian 1 Dollar Silver Proof coin was minted by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the Australian team's participation in the Beijing Olympic Games. Released as part of a broader series of numismatic tributes to the Summer Olympiad, the coin serves as a formal recognition of the athletes' efforts and the national spirit surrounding the event. It reflects the Australian tradition of utilizing legal tender to mark significant sporting milestones and cultural moments on the global stage.

The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, a design standard for Australian coinage since 1999, while the reverse showcases dynamic, stylized imagery of Olympic athletes in motion. The design was intended to capture the energy and competitive essence of the games through precise relief work typical of proof-quality minting. It was received primarily by collectors of Australian commemorative currency and those seeking keepsakes to mark the Beijing Games, maintaining a place in the market as a focused thematic collectible.
