1½ Euro (Vienna Mint - Wiener Neustadt)

The 1½ Euro coin from the Vienna Mint, specifically the 2019 edition honoring Wiener Neustadt, is part of a specialized series of silver coins issued by the Austrian Mint. These coins are intended primarily for collectors and enthusiasts rather than general circulation, serving as a commemorative tribute to the historical significance and architectural heritage of various Austrian cities. The decision to strike these at a 1½ Euro denomination is a deliberate aesthetic and historical choice, distinguishing them from standard circulation currency while maintaining a connection to the Eurozone monetary system.

The design of the coin was crafted by the skilled engravers at the Austrian Mint, who aimed to encapsulate the character of Wiener Neustadt by featuring iconic local landmarks and symbols that reflect the city's long-standing role as a center of commerce and defense. The series is widely regarded for its high-quality minting standards and detailed relief work. Upon release, the coin was well received by the numismatic community for its crisp depiction of the city’s identity and its accessible entry point into the world of Austrian commemorative silver coinage.
