Where it came from
The 2015 Australian 20-cent coin featuring the War Correspondents design was released by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the centenary of the Anzac spirit. It serves as part of a broader series honoring the various roles played by Australians during the First World War. This particular issue acknowledges the critical role of journalists and photographers in documenting the realities of the conflict, bridging the gap between the front lines and the public back home.
The design, created by Royal Australian Mint artist Wojciech Pietranik, utilizes a classic, commemorative aesthetic intended to convey solemnity and historical importance. The reverse side depicts a war correspondent at work, reflecting the observant and often perilous nature of their task. Upon its release, the coin was well-received by both numismatists and history enthusiasts, fitting into the wider Anzac Centenary collection that helped foster a national dialogue regarding the memory and legacy of the Great War.
