Where it came from
The 25 Dram coin was minted in 1994 as part of a series of commemorative issues produced in the immediate aftermath of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. These coins were issued by the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh to assert a measure of economic sovereignty and symbolize national identity during a period of intense regional instability and geopolitical isolation. Struck in aluminum, the design emphasizes simple, clear heraldry intended to evoke national resilience and statehood.
The design of the 1994 series is characterized by its utilitarian, minimalist aesthetic, common to coins produced under constrained circumstances. While the specific illustrator is not publicly credited in official minting archives, the imagery follows standard Armenian numismatic traditions, focusing on the coat of arms and national motifs. The issue was primarily intended for local circulation and numismatic interest rather than wide international trade, and it remains a point of historical curiosity for collectors of coins from unrecognized or contested territories.
