Where it came from
The 500 Dram coin was issued in 1995 to commemorate the third anniversary of the establishment of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Produced shortly after the country gained independence following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, this coin serves as a physical symbol of the nation's transition toward parliamentary democracy and the solidification of its new governmental institutions.
The design of the coin prominently features the National Assembly building in Yerevan, reflecting the architectural pride of the newly sovereign state. As part of Armenia’s early commemorative currency series, it was minted to honor the legislative branch of government, and it remains a significant piece for numismatists focusing on the post-Soviet transition period in the Caucasus.
