25 Dram (Battle of Sardarapad)

The 25 Dram coin commemorating the Battle of Sardarapad was issued in 1994 by the Central Bank of Armenia. This commemorative issue honors the 1918 battle, a pivotal event in Armenian history where outnumbered forces successfully halted the Ottoman advance, effectively securing the independence of the First Republic of Armenia. Released shortly after the nation gained sovereignty following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the coin serves as a symbol of national resilience and identity during a transformative era of state-building.

The design of the coin reflects the somber, commemorative aesthetic common to the era's numismatic programs. It features imagery associated with the Sardarapad Memorial complex, the massive architectural tribute erected in 1968 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the victory. While the specific artist is often attributed to the collective design efforts sanctioned by the Central Bank during the transition to the dram currency, the piece is recognized by collectors as a foundational item in the post-independence Armenian commemorative series.
