3 Euros (Ankylosaurus)

The 3-euro Ankylosaurus coin was issued by the Austrian Mint in 2020 as the ninth entry in their twelve-part 'Super Saurs' series. This series was conceived to celebrate the prehistoric creatures that once roamed the Earth, utilizing a unique color-printing technique that highlights the creature's features against the metallic background of the coin. The series is particularly noted for its aesthetic appeal to younger collectors and dinosaur enthusiasts, combining numismatic tradition with modern paleontological design.

The coin features an intricate design by the Austrian Mint's engraving team, depicting the Ankylosaurus in a detailed, dynamic stance. The obverse displays the armored dinosaur in a naturalistic habitat, while the reverse showcases the silhouettes of other prehistoric animals featured in the series. Upon its release, the coin was well-received for its durable, glow-in-the-dark finish, which was specifically engineered to be visible under ultraviolet light, further distinguishing it from standard bullion or commemorative circulation issues.
