Where it came from
The 3 Euro Therizinosaurus coin was minted by the Austrian Mint in 2021 as the tenth installment in the highly successful 'Supersaurus' series. This series was conceived to celebrate the fascination with prehistoric life, utilizing cutting-edge minting technology to bring long-extinct creatures to life on a circulating commemorative surface.
The reverse of the coin features a detailed depiction of the Therizinosaurus, known for its distinctively long, sickle-like claws. Designed by the Mint’s skilled engraving team, the piece employs color-application techniques that allow the creature to glow in the dark, a hallmark feature of the series intended to appeal to both numismatists and natural history enthusiasts. The design was well-received for its educational value and technical innovation in the field of modern commemorative coinage.
